Sonal Agarwal

If a person loves something and can put its heart into it can achieve anything. I like to be a strong woman who can control and make decisions but at the same time is sensitive and attentive too.

Hi, I am Sonal Agarwal from Bangalore, a party planner, though this profile sounds very exciting it requires a lot of creativity and imagination. As years back, I was working as a Senior Fabric Merchandiser with Fab India but I switched into a party planner out of my passion. Being a party planner is an exciting journey as it's very challenging as we have to bring in brainstorming ideas for unique celebrations and memorable events, and at the same time be able to identify, understand, and meet client needs. We must also be intensely organized in the tracking of deadlines and schedules, making sure of all the nitty-gritty details.

My Inspiration is my father and sister who used to be an unofficial party organizer at that time and I used to assist them with the planning process when I was young and gained hands-on experience working with them. But I never thought of being an official Party planner at that time. After my college, I did post-Graduation in Textile and I started working as a fabric merchandiser and very quickly I laddered up as a senior fabric merchandiser with Fab India but after becoming a mother I continued office for close to 8 months but then I had to give a full day for which I was not ready. I quit Fab India with a heavy heart, but after becoming a mother I realized that when you become a mother, you are no longer the center of your own universe. You relinquish that position to your children. Motherhood has completely changed me. It's the most humbling experience that I've ever had. I think that it puts you in your place because it really forces you to make such decisions in life that claim you to believe in and if you can't stand up to those decisions when you're raising a child, forget it.

The balancing act of motherhood and a career, and being a wife, is something very challenging but I loved the challenge as I always remember that balancing means making choices and enjoying those choices too. Most people chase success at work, thinking that will make them happy. The truth is that happiness at work will make you successful. You can't have everything you want, but you can have the things that really matter to you.

My favorite thing about motherhood is the outpouring of love that is non-judgmental and beautiful. My son Kabeer just makes me happy, and it's because of his lucky charm I am following my passion especially at a point of time when I felt I have nothing to do, though he is young I always love his innocent feedbacks whenever he visits with me in parties which I organize. When I see something from his new perspective it gives me a lot of encouragement.

I love my work...it's my passion. I can't imagine not working now...The more I work the happier I am. We have this creative thing in the family ...but I was not sure I could take it to this level as I was brought up in this environment where I had an inclination towards decoration, planning small parties for family and friends and used to do few big events for my own complex. One day a very close friend of mine Archana suggested: " if you feel so strongly don't you start something of your own". I thought about it and that's how ‘Jashn' was born and after that, there was no looking back and jashn is becoming stronger day by day. I always put my clients first and look at things from their perspective. Since the lead-up to an event can be overwhelming, high emotions can sometimes make my clients lash out. I never take this personally and instead suggest different ways of doing things until I find the solution that makes my client's eyes light up. I pay close attention to their wants and needs and balance them with my professional recommendations. Since I'm always striving to improve and become a more efficient event planner, I analyze client and attendee satisfaction. I've also recently been paying more attention to social media buzz. I pride myself on my time management skills and use to-do lists and productivity tools to keep everything running smoothly and satisfy all of my clients. I really like the way I have progressed in my work ...it's not been easy...a lot of hard work and effort has gone in achieving it. There is still a lot more to achieve. My greatest achievement is in the happiness which I see on the faces of my clients..... especially when it comes from little ones" aunty this is the best party ever :)".

For me, my family comes first and then anything else. I love my independence and like to live it the way I want to be. Learn to enjoy every minute of your life. Be happy now. Don't wait for something outside of yourself to make you happy in the future. Think how really precious is the time you have to spend, whether it's at work or with your family. Every minute should be enjoyed and savored. It's all about quality of life and finding a happy balance between work, friends, and family. At the end of the day, life is about being happy being who you are, and I feel like we are so blessed to have the support system. My humble advice to all mum's like me....we all have talent in us...we just need to work on it and if we feel strongly for it nothing can stop us. Stop feeling guilty about house and kids....husband's have equal responsibility for both and they should step in when we want to do something like we do when they go out for work.
